Major US logistic company, UPS, establishes collection and delivery center
UPS Japan, the Japanese arm of UPS, the world's largest small cargo shipping company specializing in international express shipping, established a collection and delivery center in Fukuoka Prefecture in October, 2006. It is an establishment with an eye on the Northern Kyushu Region, which is continuing to grow based around the automobile and semiconductor fields. The center is the first base in Kyushu for the company.

The Fukuoka collection and delivery center provides combined air, sea and land shipping, utilizing Fukuoka's geographic advantages as the gate to East Asia, and is expected to expand into services that streamline the supply chain of customers.

It is greatly anticipated that the entry by the UPS Japan will play a part in the development of international business and commerce which Fukuoka Prefecture is promoting.

Chinese Software Development Company expands into Iizuka city
Shanghai based Chinese software development company, Shanghai Chikuho Information Technologies Pty. Ltd., established a Kyushu branch in Iizuka city, Fukuoka Prefecture. The company is mainly involved with software development for Japanese industries, and the base in Iizuka city, is the company's first base in Japan.

The director of the company is an ex-oversea student of a graduate school in Iizuka City, and cited Iizuka City's substantial IT industry infrastructure and concentration of excellent human resources, and cooperation with local IT industries for regional development as reasons for expansion into Iizuka city. The company will conduct software development at its Kyushu branch, and at the same time, expects to support regional development through involvement in the training of Bridge SEs to produce specialists to act as bridges between Japan and China.

SRM of India establishes a base in Fukuoka
Chennai, India based SRM Technologies which is involved in software development by assignment from overseas and training of IT specialists, and so on, set-up an office in Fukuoka City as its business base for Western Japan in June, 2006. This office is SRM's third in Japan, following Tokyo and Osaka.

While many Indian firms focus on America and Europe, SRM has Japan as its biggest market, with 95% of its clients, Japanese firms. SRM has also put considerable efforts into IT training targeting Indian firms, utilizing SRM Group facilities such as educational institutions with 2500 professors and hotels.

This will be the first time that India's IT industry has made an entry into Fukuoka, and it is expected that SRMs activities, with Fukuoka/Kyushu as the base, will contribute to the development of Fukuoka's IT industry, and further the economic exchange between Fukuoka and India.

FIBA - Fukuoka International Business Association kicks-off! (Launched)
FIBA was launched in April 2006, as a place for foreign business persons active in Fukuoka and Kyushu, foreign researchers, as well as foreign government related institutions to deepen their networks and freely exchange information relating to international business, international economics and so on.

With the establishment of FIBA, it will be easier for foreign residents of Fukuoka to obtain important primary information that businesses cannot do without and at the same time, it will also become possible to build networks and exchange newest economic information with firms such as local international business firms. Furthermore, there are great expectations amongst the foreign business community of FIBA as an inlet for oversea firms seeking to enter the Fukuoka market.

FIBA seeks to contribute to the expansion of the businesses of members through hosting regular networking events, timely distribution of the newest economic information and so on, and at the same time increase the appeal that Fukuoka has as a base for international business.

A Chinese State Enterprise opens Kyushu office
China Jiangsu International Economic and Technical Cooperation Corp., a Chinese government-owned construction, personnel dispatch and trading company opened its Kyushu branch office in Fukuoka in March 2006 as its base for the Western Japan region.

Operating in 80 countries and regions, not only is the company ranked as one of the top-500 Chinese companies in service sector, but it is also one of the top-10 trading companies in Jiangsu province. While the company has been dispatching Chinese trainees to Japanese companies, realizing the potential of the Northern Kitakyushu region with its expanding automobile production, the company decided to focus on the automobile field, and establish its Kyushu branch office with the aim of cultivating Chinese human resources who will become the bridges between Japan and China.

Starting with managing Chinese trainees and coordinating with the training institutions in Kyushu and Yamaguchi regions, the Kyushu branch office will also be involved in the gathering information on the Automobile and IT markets, and human resources.
